The Olsens, 2026

"Whatever" 2026

MARY-KATE AND ASHLEY AS INSPIRATION

Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen have inspired me for many years with their laid-back yet curated approach to style, that cannot be authentically replicated. As women, we are often told to dress in a way that emphasizes our “good” parts of the body while hiding the unattractive ones. This kind of thinking implies that there is an ideal body type one must strive to achieve.

But the truth is, dressing to make your body look desirable is about looking attractive for the male gaze, not dressing to be stylish. Women’s clothing has often been designed to please everybody else but the women themselves. The Olsen twins' coolness in their style comes from the fact that their goal is not to cater to the male gaze or look overly polished, and therefore the end product is this carefree style that can stay true to itself.

The  process

The painting process began with me trying to focus more on details and figuring out the color palette, but throughout working on each piece my take on the twins got more relaxed.

With this final painting, the Olsens have become blurrier and more abstract, leaving the moment in its simplest form. Therefore, it ties together the shift that happened during my painting process, as well as the fact that the collection is coming to an end - at least for now.
